Detact Diagnostics Presents RenoTact®
We’re proud to share that Marleen Kalk, R&D Scientist at Detact Diagnostics, delivered a well-received presentation at the ERA Congress 2025, held in Vienna from June 4–7.
The ERA (European Renal Association) Congress is one of the largest and most respected gatherings in nephrology, attracting thousands of clinicians, researchers, and innovators from across the globe.
Marleen presented our latest pre-clinical findings on RenoTact®, a novel rapid diagnostic test developed for the early detection of peritoneal dialysis (PD)-related peritonitis. This serious complication is one of the leading causes of PD failure — and current diagnostic tools often fall short, with long turnaround times and inconsistent sensitivity.
RenoTact® is built on Detact’s proprietary VIPER® technology, enabling detection of infection-related protease activity within minutes. In contrast to traditional culture-based methods, RenoTact® aims to provide:
- ⚡ Fast turnaround for immediate clinical action
- 🧪 Reliable usability in both lab and point-of-care settings
- 🌍 Scalability for global health applications, including resource-limited settings
Why this matters
PD is an increasingly preferred modality in chronic kidney disease management due to its flexibility and patient-centred approach. However, peritonitis remains a significant challenge — one that not only threatens patient safety but can lead to a forced switch to hemodialysis, increased hospitalisation, and higher healthcare costs.
With RenoTact®, we aim to support clinicians with timely, actionable results, helping patients remain on PD longer and improving outcomes while reducing the burden on healthcare systems.
This was the first time Detact Diagnostics presented at ERA, and we’re proud to have been represented by Marleen, who showcased the strength of our R&D and the potential of VIPER-powered diagnostics to improve real-world care.
